Kenya Wildlife Service is gratified with today’s landmark ruling in which ivory smuggling kingpin Feisal Ali Mohammed was sentenced to 20 years in imprisonment and Ksh20 million fine after he was found guilty of illegally possessing and dealing in ivory. 

Four co-accused suspects and Fuji Motor company were acquitted in the case held in Mombasa.  

The magistrate ruled that the ivory be forfeited to Kenya Wildlife Service within 14 days.

CONSERVATION NGO DONATES GLOVES TO KWS

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on June 15, 2016 received a donation of 26 pairs of gloves from Raabia Hawa, a conservationist and founder of Ulinzi Africa Foundation. KWS CANINE UNIT INTERCEPTS 500KG OF PANGOLIN SCALES

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) canine unit security personnel have seized 500 kilogrammes of pangolin scales at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.

The unaccompanied consignment was seized on Wednesday night at KQ cargo area of JKIA by KWS canine team. Investigations officers from KWS headquarters were called in and secured a seizure notice from the Customs Department. The seized consignment is currently in KWS custody.

TWO FINED SH20 MILLION FOR DEALING IN ELEPHANT TUSKS

Two people have been fined Sh20 million or spend the rest of their lives in prison in default for illegally dealing in wildlife trophies.

Samuel Emana Ekudongoi and Peter Emajong appeared before a Nyahururu court to face two counts related to illegal possession and dealing in wildlife trophies.

They were arrested while in possession of three pieces of elephant tusks weighing 6.5 kilogrammes.

KWS RANGERS AND RESEARCHERS TRAINED IN DIVING SKILLS
