Strengthening Kenya’s Wild Heart: A Gift for Wildlife and Rangers
Today, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) family welcomed a heartfelt boost in our mission to protect Kenya’s natural treasures! Thanks to the Chantecaille Conservation Foundation and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, we’re thrilled to share some exciting news:
At our Headquarters in Nairobi, Director General Prof. Erustus Kanga received a generous donation from the Chantecaille Conservation Foundation—a clear proof of the power of collaboration in protecting Kenya’s wildlife.
The donation, worth US$1.8 million, includes 20 upgraded Land Cruiser pickups, one logistics truck, and 50 durable field tents. The equipment was presented by Ms. Sylvie Chantecaille, Co-Founder and CEO of Chantecaille Conservation Foundation, with the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust playing a key role in facilitating their importation and modification to fit the purpose.
Prof. Kanga expressed gratitude to Ms. Chantecaille for her strong commitment to safeguarding Kenya's rich biodiversity. "These resources will be put to efficient and effective use, ensuring they make a meaningful difference on the ground," he assured.
He emphasized that this support is more than just a donation—“It’s a direct investment in the security of our wildlife and the well-being of the brave rangers who dedicate their lives to protecting Kenya's natural heritage.”
Each vehicle has been specially modified to withstand the tough terrains KWS operates in. Equipped with VHF radios, these vehicles will enhance communication between field teams and command centres, improving coordination, response times, and overall security in our protected areas.
Prof. Kanga also underscored the importance of continued collaboration with partners like Chantecaille Conservation Foundation and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, noting that “Together, we can realize our shared vision of a thriving, well-protected ecosystem.”
Ms. Sylvie Chantecaille shared her deep passion for wildlife conservation, stating: “This donation reflects our collective vision for a well-protected wildlife population and sustainable conservation efforts in Kenya.”
A shoutout to our partners and supporters! This collaboration proves that when hearts and hands unite, miracles happen. Every rev of these engines, every tent pitched, is a step toward safer parks, happier rangers, and a wilder Kenya.
Together, we’re building a future where wildlife thrives, and conservation heroes are empowered to protect it.
Let’s keep this momentum going!
