Tourism & Enterprise
Tourism is an enabler of our conservation efforts and for this reason, we recognize our visitors as important partners. We therefore work to ensure that every park visitor’s experience is memorable. We shall do this through tourism research, continuous product development and pricing, infrastructure development and maintenance, facilities investment and robust marketing.
Park visitation is critical to their survival, and tourism and other enterprises contribute to local and national economies. We enhance economic impact by investing in tourism and other conservation-compatible enterprises and also allow investors and local communities to benefit from the infrastructure. We identify, nurture and implement wildlife based enterprises including wildlife research and payment for ecosystem services. This creates a base for financial sustainability of the protected area
Park sustainability has three main aspects that need to be addressed:
- Ecological Sustainability - does the initiative have a positive impact on the habitat and animals within it?
- Socio-Political Acceptability - will it benefit the local communities?
- Financial Viability - will it result in income flows for the park so that it can eventually sustain itself without donor funding?
Tourism is a mechanism to achieve all three of these dimensions as it turns the value of the protected area into tangible economic benefits creating the needed buy-in from local communities while using these funds to help sustain the park’s conservation efforts.
Establish and promote innovative and strategic investments for sustainable use of wildlife resources
