By Road - Kisumu is located 355km north-west of Nairobi. The sanctuary is located 3km from Kisumu City near Hippo Point. Drive-in visitors are advised to use Sitatunga Gate whereas walk-in visitors are advised to use the Main gate.

By Air - From Wilson Airport or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Kisumu International Airport. 

By Water - Kisumu is linked to Kendu Bay, Homa Bay, and Mbita by a ferry (as well as to the neighboring countries)

The wildlife sanctuary hosts impalas, the rare Sitatunga antelope, lions, leopards, buffalos, giraffes, cheetahs and several primate species. Bird watching, nature walks and boat rides compliment the activities visitors one can engage in while here. Bird lovers can enjoy bird watching, and among other activities; camping, game viewing, scenic viewing and nature walks. The sanctuary also offers great grounds for corporate and social events and also vantage points for sundowner views.

Other attractions in close proximity include; Kit Mikayi- located on the Kisumu-Bondo road, the famed Kit-Mikayi rock stands tall from Kangeso village. It is popularly known as “the stone of the first wife,” as it resembles a woman with a load on her back. It is also referred to as the weeping stone as water flows down the rock. From this stone, visitors can enjoy clear views of Lake Victoria, Kisumu City and the Kisumu International Airport as well as the rolling plains.

Kisumu Museum is another stop for visitors looking to indulge in the history of Kisumu. The museum is small but very rich in displays of materials and culture of the people of Western Nyanza. Hippo point is yet another spot located near the village of Dunga. Most people prefer visiting this attraction site to take in the beautiful sunsets. Hippo point has a beautiful camping site and a fishing port.

The sanctuary doesn’t offer KWS self-catering accommodation but visitors intending to stay overnight can opt to camp or select from a wide array of accommodation options in Kisumu city.
